Give to grassroots organisations this Giving Tuesday

Your moment
Giving Tuesday is a day celebrated every year on the Tuesday after Black Friday to take a moment during all the spending and direct one’s focus to helping those who need it. It’s a global day of action, of giving.

During Giving Tuesday, organisations call across the world for support and many people take this opportunity to donate to organisations and causes they believe in. However, since giving Tuesday is a huge global event, it’s hard for organisations to make their voices heard.

Usually, large charitable organisations with resources to spare for marketing campaigns end up getting the big chunk of the attention. No matter how big the size of the donations, donations tend to go towards the few big organisations at the top.

These big organisations are, of course, doing important work and deserve the donations they receive. However, the smaller grassroots organisations whose voices get drowned during Giving Tuesday often do equally important work and often need the donations even more.

Grassroots organisations work hard to transform issues like education, healthcare, housing, food access and environmental justice, starting with the local and going bottom-up. These organisations are deeply effective in increasing the quality of life for communities and some of them continue on to transform whole societies, nations and global policies.

These organisations work actively on the field, on the frontlines. However, as visible they are to the people whose lives they touch, grassroots organisations become invisible in these worldwide days of giving. That’s why we curated a Grassroots Advocay United Action for Giving Tuesday that will allow you to support multiple grassroots organisations with one donation.

Your donation will support 7 hard-working organisations that will put the funding they receive towards transformative projects that will directly touch people's lives.

If you’d like more information about the organisations in this United Action, you can continue reading below.

Restless Development
Restless Development’s work is based on bottom-up approaches regarding young people and leadership. Restless Development does not see youth as their end beneficiaries but promotes their growth and capacity building. They work with communities, young people and youth civil societies to adapt and evolve their ideas.

Samos Volunteers
Samos Volunteers is an independent grassroots organisation made up of volunteers that are responding to the humanitarian crisis in Samos, Greece. They provide psychosocial support, informal education and hygiene services to the people living in refugee camps.

Educate.
Educate. is a grassroots non-profit organisation that works to empower children in Honduras through community-driven initiatives focused on education. They aim to break down the unequal power relations inherent to non-profit work by flipping the concept of “aid” on its head. Communities and organisations reach out to educate. with their own ideas and act as the leaders of the interventions.

Mama Cash
Mama Cash supports women, girls and transgender and intersex people who stand up for their rights. They raise funds for activists fighting for women’s empowerment and support them with knowledge and networks.

Generations for Peace
Generations for Peace is dedicated to sustainable conflict transformation at the grassroots. They empower volunteer leaders of youth to promote active tolerance and responsible citizenship in communities experiencing different forms of conflict and violence. Carefully facilitated sport-based games, art, advocacy, dialogue, and empowerment activities provide an entry point to engage children, youth and adults towards sustained behavioural change.

The Humane League
The Humane League partially promotes their work through regional representatives. They create a regional community or civic organisation that is committed to ending the abuse of animals raised for food in their local area. They do this by campaigning, advocating and acting as a key voice for their region.

Survival International
Survival International gives tribal peoples a platform to speak to the world. This movement fights to stop loggers, miners and oil companies from destroying tribal lands, lives and livelihoods across the globe. They lobby governments to recognise indigenous land rights and document and expose the atrocities committed against tribal people.
